EVA NOVAK
7¼x9¼ sepia photo of silent film star, who played Tom Mix's love
interest and learned stunts from him
Photograph signed: "Most Sincerely/Eva Novak/4-15-27". Sepia,
7¼x9¼. Silent film star Eva Novak (1898-1988), the sister of actress
Jane Novak, made her first film appearances as one of Mack Sennett's
Bathing Beauties in a series of shorts. Advancing to feature films, she
played the romantic partner of Tom Mix in 10 films, beginning with The
Daredevil (1920). Mix taught Novak to do many of her own stunts, and in 1921
she married stunt man William Reed. She made many more films, including the
first Boston Blackie (1923), before moving with Reed to Australia late in
that decade. In the era of talking pictures, she played supporting roles, and
was still around to appear on TV in the 1960s (The Alfred Hitchcock
Theatre, Rawhide). Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine
condition.
