Holyfield (b. 1962), former U.S. Golden Glove boxing champ, turned pro after
winning a bronze medal at the 1984 Olympics. He was the first ever,
undefeated Cruiserweight champion (1986-1989) before moving up to taking
the undisputed world heavyweight title from Buster Douglas (1990). Over the
next fifteen years, Holyfield had a series of wins and losses against top
fighters to gain, regain and again lose the crown. Best remembered are his
two victories over former champ Mike Tyson, in the second of which Tyson was
disqualified for biting Holyfield's ear. Holyfield, who held the USBA
heavyweight title as recently as 2006, has continued to fight to pay off debts
incurred through generous donations and an extravagant lifestyle. The Biblical
reference is a favorite of Holyfield's, Phillipians 4:3: "I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens me." Fine condition.
