The actress pens a letter to Todd Axelrod, founder of the Gallery of History, recounting some of her career "firsts"
Autograph Letter signed: "Eve McVeagh" in blue ink, 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1894 September 9. To "Dear Mr. Axelrod". In full: "Perhaps the most thrilling always for a performer are firsts; First Equity Play, 'They Can't Get You Down,' it ran a year at the old Music Box Theater in Hollywood (Gene Barry was also in it). First Broadway Play 3 years later, for the venerable, talented George Abbott, 'Snafu' it also ran a year. First motion picture, 'High Noon' Fred Zimmerman, the director had come to see Aline McMahon [sic], (a friend and star of his first directorial assignment) in 'Madwomen [sic] of Chaillot.' I play 'Gabriele' [sic] one of them in Hollywood. He sent for me the following day. For the first time Gary Cooper wished to rehearse the movie in sequence. A great boon for every actor, and since coming from the stage and live T.V. particularly for me, we rehearsed 2 weeks, of course we shot as usual. Next, the first Los Angeles Production of 'Come back, Little Sheba' Inge's play which starred Shirley Booth in N.Y. and my performance was ranked with hers. My first Soap Opera - 'Clear Horizons' my one + only picture for Alfred Hitchcock on his T.V. series opposite Jack Abbertson - Now my first museum./ Thank you". Eve McVeagh (1919-1997) is an actress best known for playing character roles. She frequently appeared in the television programs of Alfred Hitchcock and was a guest star on scores of TV shows beginning in the 1940s. Impressively, she worked in television for over forty years, and her stage career spanned over half a century. A few of the feature films she appeared in include High Noon (1952), Crime & Punishment, U.S.A. (1959), and Murder by Natural Causes (1979). Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
