Price: $140.00
F. EDWARD HEBERT
Black and white photograph of Senator Hebert sitting at this
desk
Photograph inscribed and signed: "For my good fraternity brother
Doug Voegler/in Delta Sigma Phi with/the best wishes of /F. Edw. Hebert/of
Louisiana." B/w 8x10 overall, image 7¼x8½, one surface.As a young
reporter, F. Edward Hebert (1901-1979) won the Delta Sigma Chi Plaque for
courage in journalism for exposing corruption in the administration of Louisiana
Governor/Senator Huey Long. Elected to Congress as a Democrat, Hebert served
there longer than anyone in Louisiana history (1941-1977). As Chairman of the
House Armed Services Committee (1971-1975), with responsibilities for military
spending and base decisions, Hebert had tremendous clout. In a blow to the
seniority system, he was removed as Chairman by the House Democratic Caucus
after addressing Democrats newly elected in the post-Watergate landslide
election of 1974 as "boys and girls." Ink beaded. Lightly rippled and creased.
Tape remnants on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine
condition.
