F. MARION CRAWFORD
Handwritten note attached to a printed list of his novels
Autograph Note signed: "F. Marion Crawford", 4½x2½ card affixed to a printed list of his novels. To "Dear Sir", in full: "I am glad you like 'Mr. Isaacs', and I hope you will not be disappointed in my next novel. Very truly yours" You probably couldn't accuse American novelist Marion Crawford (1854-1909) of excessive realism in his writing, and he'd probably thank you for it. His writing was known for its vivid characterizations and settings, and drew heavily on his travels to Italy and India. Probably his best known works are Saracinesca (1887), Sant' Illario (1889) and Don Orsino (1892), about social and economic change and how it affects an Italian family. Crawford was also known for his exotic stories, such as his first novel Mr. Isaacs (1882), set in India, and the frequently anthologized horror stories The Upper Berth (1886), The Screaming Skull (1908) and the vampire story For the Blood is the Life (1911). Light ink smear in signature (legible). Fine condition.
