Autograph Letter signed: "Faith Baldwin", 1 page, 9x6 picture
postcard. Orleans, Massachusetts, June 29, 1955. Postcard photo on verso
is of Nauset Lighthouse, Eastham, Massachusetts. To John Fishbach, in full:
"I am in Orleans, Mass., for the summer, in a tiny, beautiful cottage,
Roses, Bayberry, Ocean Dunes Cove. (I wrote about it in Widow's Well.) Yes I did
the Feb. trip for charity. Ann was hospitalized till May. She is home now. Comes
here for a week July 1st, then elsewhere, then back to Colorado. Steve was
married May 1. Hervey is working. I am ok. I came here the 15. Stay till the 15
of Sept. I am working again. Good luck at your house. Best!" Faith
Baldwin (1893-1978) wrote more than 85 books, including over 60 novels,
mostly light fiction for female audiences. Her popularity peaked during the
Depression, when many of her works appeared in serial and movie form. (A dozen
of her stories were made into films in the 1930s. She wrote a column for Woman's
Day magazine, and hosted a radio and later TV program, Faith Baldwin Romance
Theatre. Widow's Walk mentioned in this letter, was a volume of
her poems, published in 1954. Many of her books remain in print. Corners
worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
