Autograph Letter signed: "Faith", 2 pages (front and verso),
5¼x3¾. No place, December 22, no year, but circa 1971. On personal note
paper to "Dear Dan & John", in full: "I've been handicapped
before & after eye surgery. I finished a novel Jan. 70 (published Jan. 71)
and by June couldn't read. Surgery wasn't till Sept. and December. My
[daughter ?] Ann came home from Colorado Sept. 70 to April 71. Then I
went back to work & she - West. She came home for good last Sept. I'd
finished a book mid-August for mid-Summer publication 72. But was not up to
Christmas cards. Have a lovely 72. Best to you both". Faith Baldwin
(1893-1978) wrote more than 85 books, including over 60 novels, mostly
light fiction for female audiences. Her popularity peaked during the
Depression, when many of her works appeared in serial and movie form. She wrote
a column for Woman's Day magazine, and hosted a radio and later TV program,
Faith Baldwin Romance Theatre. She continued writing novels, though at a
slower pace, after recovering from the eye surgery described here. Fine
condition.
