QUEEN ELIZABETH II The longest-reigning monarch in British history, exercises her Royal Prerogatives by signing a pardon for a parking fine. In part: "Whereas Ian Johnson at Wells Street Magistrates' Court on the eighteenth day of June 1974 was convicted of four offenses of causing a motor vehicle to wait in a registered street during the prescribed hours and was ordered to pay fines totaling sixteen pounds. Now know ye that We in consideration of some circumstances humbly represented unto Us, are Graciously pleased to extend Our Grace and Mercy unto the said Ian Johnson and to pardon and remit unto him the fines imposed upon him as aforesaid…." Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and North Ireland and of many other realms, ascended the throne in 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI. The "R" in her signature stands for "Regina," the Latin word for Queen.
JACQUELINE KENNEDY ONASSIS She has penned (but not signed) this very moving reminiscence of "happy summer evenings at the Cape … eating Mathilda's fish chowder" with JFK and his father, when "touched by destiny" was thought to mean "only happy things." Autograph Manuscript unsigned but with "Kennedy" twice in text, 1 page, 8x12½. No place, no date but written in the 1960s. In full: "4. Now Mr Kennedy is sick and Jack is gone. Mr Kennedy had seen Jack nearly die so many times. He used to say that Jack was touched by destiny. But those were happy summer evenings at the Cape when he came there, when we were all eating Mathilda's fish chowder - and you thought that meant only happy things - to be touched by destiny. Dear Grandpa - you brought all the joy to my life - more than one should dare to hope to have - and because of that - all the pain. I will remember you - and I will love you until I die." Born Jacqueline Bouvier in 1929, Jackie married John F. Kennedy in 1953.
MARY CASSATT In a handwritten letter to a friend in Paris, Cassatt explains that her art keeps her too busy to reply to most letters, but that she would welcome a visit in the Spring. ANNIE OAKLEY Oakley handwrote, dated and signed this letter to a friend in 1909, describing life on the road as a trick shootist. This letter sheds light on how she viewed the life of a traveling performer. Autograph Letter signed: "Annie Oakley", 2 pages, 6x9¼. Wilson, North Carolina, 1909 January 13. On letterhead of New Briggs Hotel to "My dear Friend". In full: "I know I am perfectly terrible for neglecting to write and thank you for the beautiful cup & the pretty photo of dear little Verginia [sic]. I surely can appreciate them more than I can tell you. I do hope to see you at Pinehurst. Then we can eat those fine grape fruit for our breakfast. And just have a good old visit. Then you can explain why Mr. McCarty always wins when his little Wife is with him. I gave my first shot yesterday. Had a fine day & about 1500 people, best in Washington. Pouring rain now & it is 11:30 AM. Hope it will clear up. Thanking you again. And with love and every good wish, I am most sincerely." At top of page 2 she has added "for Verginia [sic]", surrounding it with x's.

ANNIE OAKLEY Her rare signature on a 4x2½ card, matted and then attached to an 11x16 reproduction of a poster publicizing her show Signature: "Annie Oakley", 4x2½ card. Affixed to a 4¼x2¾ matte which in turn is affixed to a larger matte 11¼x16, which features a reproduction of a poster publicizing her appearance. Sharpshooter Annie Oakley (1860-1926) toured vaudeville circuits and circuses with her husband, Frank Butler, whom she married in 1876 when she was 16. She starred in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show from 1885-1902. Oakley was called "Little Sure Shot" because she was only five feet tall. On this poster, with six illustrations of her in action, she is called "the peerless wing and rifle shot". Oakley's life story was told in Irving Berlin's 1946 musical, Annie Get Your Gun, currently enjoying a successful revival on Broadway. Her signature is rare in any form. Signature slightly lifted from the matte at its lower edge. Fine condition.

In 1876, at age 16, she married Frank Butler, a vaudeville performer who became her partner. Annie's self-effacing personality (on and off stage) made her a popular performer. In 1885, the Butlers joined Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show. Annie, a star with the show for 17 years, charmed Kings and Queens. The five-foot-tall Oakley got her name "Little Sure Shot" from Lakota Sioux Chief Sitting Bull, who was briefly a part of the show in 1885, and used it in her promotional materials.In 1901, she was severely injured in a railroad wreck that temporarily paralyzed her.
