The "sure shot" used exhibition cards to demonstrate her shooting prowess by taking aim from 30 paces away and splitting the card dead center. This particular card, pierced with a .22 caliber bullet through its printed black heart, is nothing short of a perfect example of Oakley's unrivaled skill and precision. And we hope that her Mother will strike oil on her farm. 5 wells on 2 next farms all paying. I havent been well. 5 weeks in N.Y.C. and only got one dress made. Most of my correspondence is done in French through my [illegible] Is French, she has been with us 43 years Ever since my Mothers (sic) death thirty years ago I have been alone, carrying on this place & working here. QUEEN ELIZABETH II The longest-reigning monarch in British history, exercises her Royal Prerogatives by signing a pardon for a parking fine. Partly Printed Document signed: "Elizabeth R" as Queen, 2 pages, 8½ x 13. Our Court at St James's, 1974 October 8. In part: "Whereas Ian Johnson at Wells Street Magistrates' Court on the eighteenth day of June 1974 was convicted of four offenses of causing a motor vehicle to wait in a registered street during the prescribed hours and was ordered to pay fines totaling sixteen pounds. Now know ye that We in consideration of some circumstances humbly represented unto Us, are Graciously pleased to extend Our Grace and Mercy unto the said Ian Johnson and to pardon and remit unto him the fines imposed upon him as aforesaid…." Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and North Ireland and of many other realms, ascended the throne in 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI. The "R" in her signature stands for "Regina," the Latin word for Queen.
ANNIE OAKLEY Her rare signature on a 4x2½ card, matted and then attached to an 11x16 reproduction of a poster publicizing her show Signature: "Annie Oakley", 4x2½ card. Affixed to a 4¼x2¾ matte which in turn is affixed to a larger matte 11¼x16, which features a reproduction of a poster publicizing her appearance. Sharpshooter Annie Oakley (1860-1926) toured vaudeville circuits and circuses with her husband, Frank Butler, whom she married in 1876 when she was 16. She starred in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show from 1885-1902. Oakley was called "Little Sure Shot" because she was only five feet tall. On this poster, with six illustrations of her in action, she is called "the peerless wing and rifle shot". Oakley's life story was told in Irving Berlin's 1946 musical, Annie Get Your Gun, currently enjoying a successful revival on Broadway. Her signature is rare in any form. Signature slightly lifted from the matte at its lower edge. Fine condition.

The five-foot-tall Oakley got her name "Little Sure Shot" from Sitting Bull and used it in her promotional materials. In 1901, she and her husband decided to retire from public life. However, shooting was in her blood, and the Butlers continued to make appearances around the country.

JACQUELINE KENNEDY ONASSIS She has penned (but not signed) this very moving reminiscence of "happy summer evenings at the Cape … eating Mathilda's fish chowder" with JFK and his father, when "touched by destiny" was thought to mean "only happy things." Autograph Manuscript unsigned but with "Kennedy" twice in text, 1 page, 8x12½. No place, no date but written in the 1960s. In full: "4. Now Mr Kennedy is sick and Jack is gone. Mr Kennedy had seen Jack nearly die so many times. He used to say that Jack was touched by destiny. But those were happy summer evenings at the Cape when he came there, when we were all eating Mathilda's fish chowder - and you thought that meant only happy things - to be touched by destiny. Dear Grandpa - you brought all the joy to my life - more than one should dare to hope to have - and because of that - all the pain. I will remember you - and I will love you until I die."
