FANNY BRICE
She signs to acknowledge a change in the broadcast schedule of her Baby Snooks radio show.
Document signed: "Fanny Brice", 1 page, 8½x11 Beverly Hills, California, 1948 April 20. Brice signs to acknowledge receipt of a letter from the Young and Rubicam advertising agency, informing her that her contract with the General Foods Corporation through the Benton & Bowles agency, relating to the radio program The Baby Snooks Show, will be modified to change the hour of the broadcast. The program will now be heard Fridays at 5:00 PM, Pacific Daylight Savings Time, with a re-broadcast at 9:00 PM PDST. Fanny Brice (1891-1951) starred in the Ziegfeld Follies in the 1920s and 1930s and became known for her beautiful voice and limber grace, which she always used in the service of humor. In the Broadway comedy Crazy Quilt (1931), she introduced the character of "Baby Snooks," a precocious, mischievous brat she had first played in vaudeville in 1912. She performed as "Baby Snooks" in Ziegfeld Follies of the Air. The character then became part of the Maxwell House Coffee Time radio show, and, in 1938, Brice launched her own weekly broadcast, The Baby Snooks Show. Brice's enormously successful run on radio lasted until her death in 1951. Brice was the model for Barbra Streisand's character in the successful play and movie Funny Girl. Intended as entertainment, Funny Girl is inaccurate with respect to many details of Brice's life. Multiple mailing folds. Bottom left corner creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
