Autograph Sentiment signed: "In great haste/Yours truly/Fanny/Brough", 4x3½. Paris-born English actress Fanny Brough (1852-1914) performed both dramatic and comedy roles, excelling at the latter. She made her stage debut in Manchester in 1869, playing Hamlet's Ophelia there that year, and she stepped on her first London stage in 1870. Brough was the first to play the role of Lady Markby in Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband (1895), and the first to play the title role in George Bernard Shaw's Mrs. Warren's Profession (1902). In 1903, she toured the US with Charles Hawtrey. In 1891 she became the first President of the Theatrical Ladies' Guild, devoted to aiding indigent former actresses. One horizontal and one vertical fold. Adhesive residue at left. Lightly creased. Mounting residue on verso (no show through). Piece of paper with pencil note (unknown hand) identifying signature affixed at bottom left (2 surfaces). Irregularly cut at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
