The nineteenth-century stage actress signs her name in black ink
Signature: "Fanny Davenport/ Oct 15th/ Hartford" in black ink. 4x2¼ card. October 15, no year. Hartford, Connecticut. English-born American stage actress Fanny Davenport (1850-1898) made her debut at the age of 12 as the King of Spain in Faint Heart Never Won Fair Lady. In 1869, she joined the famed company of Augustin Daly, which traveled across the U.S. and toured England, Germany and France, presenting adaptations of foreign works and revivals of Shakespearean comedies. Leaving to form her own company, Davenport appeared in such plays as Sardous Fedora (1883) and Cleopatra (1890), making her final appearance on March 25, 1898, shortly before her death. Fanny was the daughter of American stage actor Edward Loomis Davenport (1816-1877) and English stage actress Fanny Vining. Toned. Corners creased. Ink stains on verso.
