The stage actress signs "Thanks" on a 11¼x4¼ photograph, shown in an Asian inspired costume
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Allan Broh/Thanks/Fay Bainter", in blue ink, B/w 11¼x14¼. Fay Bainter (1891-1968) was on stage from age 5 and made her Broadway debut in 1912. By the time she appeared in a film, however (This Side of Heaven, 1934), she was old enough for casting in motherly and other mature roles. In 1938, she was nominated for two Oscars: Best Actress (White Banners) and Best Supporting Actress (Jezebel); she won the latter. Bainter earned another Best Supporting Actress nomination in 1961 for The Children's Hour, which was also her last feature film. Corners worn and heavily creased. Small tears along edges. Light surface creases. Lightly toned. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Stick on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
