FAY WRAY
King Kong action figure - with a miniature screaming Ann Darrow, Fay Wray's character - from McFarlane Toys, signed on the box by Wray in red ink
Action figure signed "Fay Wray" in red ink on box window. Box is 12 ¾ x 13 ¾ x 5 ¾, unopened. Still-boxed Movie Maniac 3 deluxe box set series by McFarlane Toys with King Kong with broken chains and small Fay Wray prop. ©1933 RKO Radio Pictures, ©2000 Turner Entertainment Co. This action figure depicts King Kong from the 1933 movie, just moments after bursting his fetters in New York City and before he began his famous climb up the Empire State Building with Wray's character Ann Darrow. Although Wray (1907-2004, born Vina Fay Wray in Cardston, Alberta, Canada) made more than 75 films, she is best remembered for her role as Ann Darrow in the 1933 classic King Kong. Wray, "the beauty who killed the beast", started in films at the age of 12 in 1919 (Blind Husbands), and first found stardom in 1928 in The Wedding March. She continued making appearances in films through 1980, when she was featured in the made-for-TV movie, Gideon's Trumpet. Her other film credits include Thunderbolt (1929), Viva Villa (1934), Bulldog Jack (1935) and Tammy and the Bachelor (1957). Wray's autobiography, On the Other Hand, was published in 1989. Box is unopened and taped shut, and action figure is in fine condition. Box is lightly scuffed and has lightly creased panels and rounded corners. Clear Mylar window in front of box is lightly scratched, creased and rippled. Otherwise in fine condition.
