Rare signature from the Puerto Rican baseball player
Signature: "Felix Mantilla", in ink, 4x3¾. Felix Mantilla (1934-2025) is a former MLB
infielder/outfielder, playing for the Milwaukee Braves, New York Mets, Boston Red
Sox, and Houston Astros from 1956 to 1966. Mantilla was originally signed to the
Jacksonville Braves in 1953, playing for one of the first two racially integrated teams
in the United States, before being called up the majors a few years later in the Milwaukee
Braves. He was present for their 1957 World Series victory, but was traded to the New
York Mets during the expansion draft. He was soon after traded to the Boston Red Sox
where he set a number of career highs and was selected for the American League
All-Star Team. Mantilla was again traded in 1966 to the Houston Astros, but only played for
one season before being released. He finished his career with a .261 batting average, 89
home runs, and 330 RBI. Binding holes on top margin. Corners slightly worn and creased.
