In full from German to English: “Hopeful and awaiting good news!”3½x5½. Bust view b/w magazine photo and clippling about the composer affixed on left side. Pianist-turned-maestro Ferdinand Leitner (1912-1996) was a German conductor most famous for his conducting of operatic words. Leitner studied under Franz Schreker, Julius Prüwer, Artur Schnabel and Karl Muck. Although he started off playing piano, he shifted his focus from playing to conducting and became a full-fledged conductor in the 1930s. He served as conductor for a number of different notable venues including the Nollendorfplatz Theater, the Teatro Colón, and Het Residentie Orkest. From 1947 to 1969, he was the General Music Director of the Württemberg State Opera house in Stuttgart. Over 300 of the performances for which he functioned as maestro were recorded for posterity. Light staining throughout. Corners worn and lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
