FERNANDO LAMAS
Vintage candid 3½x5½ photo, posed in a light suit on the stairs of a large building, acquired from the collection of Francis and Violet Zane.
Photograph signed: "Fernando Lamas". B/w, 3½x5½. Candid photo. Singer/actor Fernando Lamas (1915-1982), an established film star in his native Argentina, starred in many Hollywood films of the 1950s, usually in "Latin lover" roles. He had a fine singing voice, and sometimes employed it in his films. Among his English-language films were The Merry Widow (1952), The Girl Who Had Everything (1953) and The Lost World (1960). He also directed, mostly on TV, including episodes of Falcon Crest, which co-starred his son Lorenzo Lamas. His wives included Lana Turner, Arlene Dahl and Esther Williams. This photograph is from the collection of Francis and Violet Zane, Hawaii natives who moved to California in the 1920's. Francis Zane had a job at the historic Curran Theater and the San Francisco Opera House, which is where he began his massive collection, with photographs and materials ranging from the 1920's to 1960's. The location and luck of his occupation would land him smack dab in the middle of the celebrity world, allowing him to capture some of the most unique and interesting pieces of Hollywood history. Lightly bowed. Corners slightly worn. Fine condition.
