FERRUCIO TAGLIAVINI
Signed b/w headshot of Tagliavini in a suit-and-tie and hat and with a pipe in his mouth
Inscribed photograph signed "A John Feldman/ricordo di/Ferrucio Tagliavini" in blue ink. B/w, 4x5¾. Tagliavini (1913-1995, born in Villa Cavazzoli, Italy) is an Italian tenor and motion-picture actor. Tagliavini didn't have any early musical talent; he actually wanted to be an electrical engineer. But he sang in the church choir, and his voice was so pure that he was nicknamed "the little Caruso". His father tricked him into a singing career; they just happened to be in Parma during a singing competition at the Parma Conservatory. He received a scholarship to the Conservatory and, after intermittent vocal lessons, made his professional debut in Parma in 1938 as Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème. He debuted at Teatro alla Scala debut, in Milan, Italy, in 1942 and at the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1947. Tagliavini retired from opera in 1965 but continued to give recitals into the mid-1970's. He also has seven Italian-language movie credits between 1942 and 1958, made during the height of his popularity. Lightly toned and creased. Lightened near top edge. Pen skipped while signing signature. Otherwise in fine condition.
