FIGHTING MAD MOVIE CAST: LEON ERROL and ELYSE KNOX
Lobby Card signed by both, shown as Joe Palooka's manager and girl friend.
Lobby Card signed: "Leon Errol" (in pencil), "Elyse Knox" (in ink) Color, 14x11 lobby card for Fighting Mad (1948), the fifth film based on comic book boxer Joe Palooka (played by Joe Kirkwood, Jr.). Australian-born LEON ERROL (1881-1951) was a medical student who got sidetracked into variety shows, and ended up with roles in over 160 movies between 1921 and 1951 and 21 Broadway productions between 1911 and 1929, including five incarnations of Ziegfeld Follies (1911-1915) and Ziegfeld Midnight Frolic (1921-1922, 123 performances). He got his start touring Australia and New Zealand, performing in circuses and burlesques and even doing some Shakespearean acting before immigrating to the United States in 1905. Errol had lead and supporting roles in film but is probably best known for his two-reeler comedies with RKO Radio Pictures, in which he often played a henpecked husband. ELYSE KNOX (1917-2012) was a model and fashion designer, often featured in Vogue, before making her movie  debut in Wake Up and Live (1934). She made regular screen appearances through the 1940s, including five of the Joe Palooka movies, without becoming a big star. She has interesting family connections though, as the daughter of Secretary of the Navy, William Franklin Knox, the wife of football star and announcer Tom Harmon, the mother of actor Mark Harmon, the mother in law of actor/singer Rick Nelson, and the grandmother of actress Tracy Harmon. Minor surface creases. Soiled. Corners creased. Notches on lower right corner. Ink stamp and pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Stain on lower left margin.
