focal points for the the psychedelic music scene, with the Grateful Dead, Jefferson
Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Janis Joplin's Big Brother and the Holding
Company as house bands in all but name. One of the best known concert halls of the
1960s, it attracted such diverse acts as County Joe McDonald and the Fish, Jimi Hendrix,
The Doors, Cream, the Who, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. Built in 1912 at
Fillmore Street and Geary Boulevard in San Francisco, California, the Fillmore was originally
the Majestic Academy of Dancing. It became, over the years, a dance hall, a roller skating rink
and a venue for black performers alike James Brown and Ike and Tina Turner before moving
to Market Street and South Van Ness Avenue in 1968 and being renamed the Fillmore West.
Promoter Bill Graham managed the venue from 1965 until his death in 1991 and
personally introduced each band. The Fillmore was reopened at its original Fillmore Street
location in 1994. Lightly bowed and creased. Signatures cross and touch. Danelli's signature is
lightly smeared in places, but legible. Low contrast on some signatures, which are still legible.
Light dent in lower right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
