Sale Price $1,870.00
Signed 4½x6 photo (circa 1920) of Douglas addressing the ball, the oldest signed photo of any USGA champion we have seen!
Photograph signed: "Findlay S. Douglas". B/w 4½x6 photo, affixed to 7x9 heavy card stock (2 surfaces). Findlay S. Douglas (1874-1959), born in St. Andrews, Scotland, won the US Amateur Golf Championship in 1898. (He was the last Scot to win that event until 2006, when Richie Ramsay won it.) Although Douglas remained active on the links, winning the US Senior's Golf Association championship in 1932, he made an even greater mark as a golf administrator, as co-founder of the Golf Links of America, President of the Metropolitan Golf Association (1922-1924) and of the US Golf Association (1929-1930). He remained an amateur golfer all his life. This photograph, taken around 1920, is the oldest known signed photo of any USGA Champion that we have been able to identify! Lightly silvered. Right edge soiled at top portion. Minor staining on lower left portion of backing. Otherwise, fine condition.
