The opera performers sign their names on a program for the Metropolitan Opera's 1970-1971 season
Program signed: "Fiorenza Cossotto", "Frederica Von Stade", 40 pages, 8¼x11. Program for the Metropolitan Opera, 1970-1971 season. FIORENZA COSSOTTO (b. 1935) is an Italian mezzo-soprano with a big, overpowering voice. She is considered to be one of the greatest mezzo-sopranos of the 20th Century, with a career spanning five decades and into the new millennium. Cossotto made her debut in 1957 as Sister Matilde at the 1957 world premiere of Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy. Her big break came five years later, when she replaced an ill Giulietta Simionato as the lead in a 1962 La Scala production of La Favorita. Cossotto also appeared almost 150 times at the Metropolitan Opera between1968 and 1989. FREDERICA VON STADE (born in Somerville, New Jersey in 1945) is an American mezzo-soprano. She debuted with the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1970 and debuted at the Santa Fe Opera in 1971 as Cherubino in Mozart's the Marriage of Figaro. In addition to opera, von Stade has performed music from The Sound of Music, Showboat and other musicals and has performed on PBS specials, including A Carnegie Hall Christmas Concert in 1991. She has also sung with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and was also a featured performer at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Corners worn. Surface creases. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
