Typed Letter Signed: "Barbara Bush", 1p, 6¼x8½. The Vice President's House, Washington,
D.C., 1982 January 12. To Mr. Borino. In full: "So many thanks for your great letter! George
and I have signed the enclosed pictures [not present] as you requested. With best wishes,
Sincerely," Handwritten postscript by Mrs. Bush: "Thanks for your very nice note!" Since
1974, the Vice President has lived in a large, white-painted, Victorian house on the southeast
corner of 34th Street and Massachusetts Avenue in Washington, D.C. Located on the grounds
of the U.S. Naval Observatory, the official title of the home is "The Admiral's House". It is
pictured on Mrs. Bush's stationery. Barbara and George Bush, who were married on January
6, 1945, in the First Presbyterian Church in Rye, New York, Barbara Pierce married "the first
man I ever kissed" have been together for over 60 years, a record for a U.S. presidential
couple. Bush was Reagan's Vice President from 1981-1989 before serving as 41st U.S.
President (1989-1993). Barbara Bush (1925-2018), with her sensible, down-to earth
manner was an enormously popular First Lady. In addition to her many duties, she crusaded
against illiteracy and supported programs to help the homeless and fight drug abuse. The
first woman since Abigail Adams to be wife of one President and mother of another, she is the
only First Lady to witness her son's presidential inauguration. Fine condition.
