BARBARA BUSH The Vice President's wife thanks a supporter. Typed Letter Signed: "Barbara Bush", 1p, 6½x8½. No place (Washington), 1988 August 29. To Ms. Martin. In full: "So many thanks for your letter. I have signed the enclosed photograph as you requested. George and I appreciate your generous words of support. With all best wishes." Mrs. Bush has added in holograph: "Thanks for your nice note." At the Republican National Convention held in New Orleans two weeks earlier, August 15-18, 1988, Vice President George Bush had been nominated for President by acclamation on the first ballot. Barbara Bush (1925-2018), with her sensible, down-to earth manner was an enormously popular First Lady. In addition to her many duties, she crusaded against illiteracy and supported programs to help the homeless and fight drug abuse. The first woman since Abigail Adams to be wife of one President and mother of another, she is the only First Lady to witness her son's presidential inauguration. Fine condition.
