ELEANOR ROOSEVELT
Written during UN General Assembly meeting in London.
Typed Letter Signed: "Eleanor Roosevelt", 1p, 8x10½. On scarce stationery of the United States Delegation to the General Assembly of the United Nations, London, England, 1946 January 15. To Mrs. Louise Andree Coury, London. In full: "Many thanks for your magazines. Something similar is done by the Junior Literary Guild in the United States. I think you might write to Miss Helen Ferris, Junior Literary Guild. I don't know the address but you may send it in care of Miss Malvina C. Thompson, 342 Madison Avenue, New York City (Room 901) and I am sure she would forward it. I could not sponsor any clubs of the kind but there might be some ideas that you have that Miss Ferris would be glad to incorporate in their plan." In London, the former First Lady was instrumental in getting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations. Eleanor Roosevelt served as U.S. delegate to the UN General Assembly in 1945, 1947-1952 and 1961. She had served as First Lady longer than any other woman in U.S. history (1933-1945) and was affectionately known as "First Lady of the World". Fine condition.
