Partly Printed Check filled out and signed: "Florence Kling Harding", 5¾x3¾. Marion, Ohio, 1921 January 12. Drawn on The Marion National Bank, payable to "The F. & R. Lazarus & Co." for $80.73. Lazarus, one of Ohio's largest department store chains, was founded by Simon Lazarus in 1851. Florence was preparing to move into the White House as her husband, Ohio Senator Warren G. Harding, had been elected President ten weeks earlier. Faint bank stamp touches the first 2 names of signature, cut cancellation touches 3 letters on payee and amount lines. Rust paper clip stain at upper center, light show through of bank stamp on verso at left portion.
