LAURA BUSH
Book Plate from her Spoken from the Heart, signed boldly in blue felt tip
Book Plate signed: "Laura Bush", 4¼x3¾. Bookplate for Spoken from the Heart. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Southern Methodist University in 1968, LAURA BUSH, born Laura Lane Welch in Midland, Texas in 1946, taught in public schools in Dallas and Houston. In 1973, she earned a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin and worked as a public school librarian in Austin. Laura Welch and George W. Bush were married in 1977. She became First Lady in 2001 when her husband was elected President of the United States. They are the parents of twin daughters Jenna and Barbara. Not as involved in public policy debates as some recent First Ladies, Laura Bush encouraged her husband's emphasis on education reform. Critics praised her memoir, Spoken from the Heart (2011), for its warm descriptions of her small town upbringing and family life, but some were disappointed that she (characteristically) refrained from voicing strong opinions about the people she met in public life. Fine condition.
