Autograph Letter Signed: "Mamie E", 2p, 4½x6 (front and verso). No place, 1968 July 24. On her rare "in the Mamie Manner" gold imprinted notepaper.To Alice (Mrs. Lewis L. Strauss).In full: "It was so sweet of you and Lewis to come by and see me the other day. Thank you for that adorable Wedgewood Pamander ball. I could hardly wait to put it in my cupboard so my dresses and robes would smell so good with Pot Porri (sic, potpourri) scent. The Mike Douglas Show with the Children is on August 9th - A.B.C. #7. Too bad it isn't before the convention. 'Ike' walked out in the hall last night. That is progress. Much love." LEWIS L. STRAUSS served as Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (1953-1958) and Eisenhower's Secretary of Commerce (1958-1959, not confirmed by the Senate). Alice and Lewis Strauss were married from 1923 until his death in 1974. Roger Ailes was the executive producer of The Mike Douglas Show. In 1967, Richard Nixon appeared on the show and in 1968, Ailes become media adviser to Nixon's successful presidential run. Richard Nixon became the Republican nominee for President at the convention held in Miami Beach August 5-8, 1968. The Nixons appeared on The Mike Douglas Show the day after the convention ended.
