"With all good wishes, and the hope that you may enjoy reading some of
the books I have enjoyed writing. Sincerely yours". Florence Crannell Means
(1891-1980) wrote children's books. Long before it was fashionable to do so,
she was telling stories of culturally diverse characters in order to reduce
fear and misunderstanding among her readers. Her works included
African-Americans in the rural south (Shuttered Windows, 1938), migratory
farm workers (Across the Fruited Plain, 1940) and Japanese-Americans
relocated during World War II (The Moved-Outers, 1945). Page and
photo lightly creased. Overall, fine condition.
