FLORENCE MARLY

The famous actress pens a letter to some friends to wish them a “Merriest Christmas and New Year”, signed in pink ink

Autograph Letter Signed: “Florence/Marly/ [heart].” in pink ink.  4¼x5¾. No place. No date. In full: “My dear [heart] Jess [heart] and [heart] Jack [heart] and [heart] Alen [heart]. With all my good wishes for the best and the merriest Christmas and New Year 1973 with love Florence Marly [heart]. To Doggies too [heart]”.  Florence Marly (1919-1978) was a Czech-born French film actress. During World War II she moved to Argentina with her Jewish husband, the film director Pierre Chenal, and appeared in several films. She also acted in two of her husband's films while they were in Chile. Florence played a major role in Rene Clement's Les Maudits, a fictionalized account showing the fate of Nazi refugees. After moving to Hollywood she acted in Paramount's Sealed Verdict opposite Ray Milland, and the next year Marly starred in Stuart Heisler's Tokyo Joe (1949) with Humhrey Bogart. She received appreciations for her acting in the espionage film Tokyo File 212. In 1962 Florence starred in Dead Man's Shoes, and four years later she played the role of a blood-thirsty vampire queen in Curtis Harrington directed horror movie Queen of Blood, based on a novel by Charles Nuetzel. Beautiful illustration on verso. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
