FLORENCE STANLEY
Writing to arrange an interview, following one of her matinee
performances
Typed Letter signed: "Florence Stanley", 1 page, 8½x11. No
place, 1966 December 6. To Miss Liebhaber, in full: "Thank you
so much for your nice letter. Perhaps we could arrange some time for an
interview. Generally my best times for that would be after the Wednesday and
Saturday matinee. Perhaps you could drop me a note with your phone number and
when you can be reached by phone. I'll call you and we can set up an
appointment. I'm enclosing the two photos you requested. [Items not
included.] Sincerely". Florence Stanley (1924-2003) was best known
to a wide audience for her comic roles on television, especially the wife of
Detective Fish on Barney Miller and Fish, beginning in 1975.
She played guest appearances on many sitcoms, including Golden Girls and
Night Court. However, theater critics recognized her talent for
tragedy, as in her much praised role as Clymnestra in the New York Shakespeare
Festival performance of Electra (1964). Mike Nichols cast her in several
of his plays and films, beginning with The Prisoner of Second Avenue
(1971). Lightly creased. Lightly worn at edges. Slightly woned. Otherwise, fine
condition.
