Typed letter signed: "Floyd", in blue ink, 1 page 8x10½. Washington D.C., May 6, 1975. On his official letterhead for the Congress of the United States to "Dear Mr. Goldberg", Herman Goldberg, Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Office of Education, in full: "The Indiana University--Purdue University, Indianapolis General Assistant Center has worked in the Second District area during the past two years and has proven valuable to those schools systems it services. Currently it has applied for refunding under Title Four for the Civil Right Act of 1964. I urge you to give every consideration possible to its proposal. Sincerely". Congressman Floyd Fithian (1928-2003) took office in January of 1975, serving for 8 years. A Democrat, he represented Indiana's 2nd congressional district. Fithian was educated at the Peru State College and the University of Nebraska, receiving his B.A. and Ph.D. Before being elected to Congress he taught history at Nebraska Wesleyan University and, when he moved to Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue University. In his youth Fithian served as Commander in the U.S. Navy . Normal mailing folds. Edges and corners slightly creased. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
