Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Aaron/Many Joys/Floyd Dixon. B/w, 10x8. Photo: Donald E. Dean. Captioned in lower margin. Blues singer and pianist Floyd Dixon (1929-2006) was a major figure in the evolution of swing music into rhythm and blues. His had several national hits in the early 1950s, including "Dallas Blues", "Doin' the Town", "Wine, Wine, Wine" and "Hey, Bartender". On tour with Ray Charles, he advised Charles to introduce more gospel influences into his music. Although his music anticipated much R&B and early rock and roll, his own fame faded as a younger generation of artists moved into the spotlight. However, a 1975 compilation of his music proved a major hit in Europe, and was followed by a highly successful world tour. He was commissioned to write "Olympic Blues" for the L.A. Olympics of 1984. In 1993, the Rhythm and Blues Foundation honored him with its Pioneer Achievement Award. Fine condition.
