Signature: "Floyd Gibbons", 5x3. Floyd P. Gibbons (1887-1939) was a war correspondent and radio commentator. He earned fame from his reporting of World War I, including a first-hand account of the sinking of the merchant ship Laconia by a German U-Boat and a much-quoted account of U.S. Marines in combat at Belleau Wood. In that battle Gibbons was wounded several times and lost his eye. He wrote a biography of "the Red Baron" von Richthofen (1927) and a novel of future war The Red Napoleon (1936), both of which remain in print. Heavily toned. Corners slightly worn. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Fine condition.
