Sale Price $342.00
Sepia publicity photograph of Floyd Gibbons wearing a suit and tie.
Photograph signed: "Floyd Gibbons". Sepia, 8x10 overall, image 7x9 (one surface). Floyd Gibbons (1887-1939) was a war correspondent and radio commentator. He earned fame from his reporting of World War I, including a first-hand account of the sinking of the merchant ship Laconia by a German U-Boat and a much-quoted account of U.S. Marines in combat at Belleau Wood. In that battle Gibbons was wounded several times and lost his eye, hence the eye patch he is wearing in this picture. He wrote a biography of "the Red Baron" von Richthofen (1927) and a novel of future war The Red Napoleon (1936), both of which remain in print. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
