THE FOUR TOPS Sheet music for their hit, "I'm in a Different World," signed by all four original members, matted and framed to 20x22. Sheet Music signed: "Obie Benson/4 Tops", "Levi Stubbs", "Lawrence Payton" and "Duke Fakir/4 Tops", 8½x11½, matted and framed to an overall size of 20x22. Sheet Music for "I'm in a Different World," signed around their photo on the front cover. Friends from high school days, the young men who became The Four Tops were used by Motown Records as a backup for the Supremes and other groups before cutting a hit of their own, "Baby I Need Your Loving|" in 1964. A string of big hits followed, including "I Can't Help Myself" (their first #1 in 1965), and "Reach Out I'll Be There" (1966, becoming their signature song). These hits, like "I'm in a Different World" were produced with the songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland. By the end of the decade, The Four Tops were the top-selling male R&B artists in the UK, and #2 in the US behind the Temptations. The original members remained with the band for over 40 years, until death began to claim them. LEVI STUBBS (1936-2008), a baritone, was lead singer. He was also a voice actor, whose roles included the carnivorous plant Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors (1986). Unlike so many of his contemporaries, Stubbs declined offers of a solo career, and refused to list his own name separately in the group's title. RENALDO "OBIE" BROWN (1936-2005) sang bass, joined by tenors LAWRENCE PAYTON (1938-1997) and ABDUL "DUKE" FAKIR (b. 1935), the only surviving member. While their string of hits tapered off, they continued to perform with success on recordings with The Supremes (called together The Magnificent Seven), on movie soundtracks, including Grease 2, and in live performance. Completing a tour in England, they overslept and missed their scheduled flight - Pan Am 103, destroyed by a bomb in 1988. The groups honors include the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Corners lightly creased. Fine condition. Not framed in the Gallery of History style.
