KUKLA, FRAN AND OLLIE
Fran.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To/The Straus/Movie and/Appreciation Club/Sincerely/Fran Allison". B/w, 7x9. Kukla, Fran and Ollie began in the imagination of Burr Tillstrom, a native Chicagoan who had put on puppet shows since childhood. He created Kukla in 1936 and over time added the rest of the Kuklapolitan Players, including Madame Ooglepuss, Oliver J. Dragon (Ollie), Cecil Bill, Mercedes, Colonel Crackie, Beulah Witch and Fletcher Rabbit. In 1947, Bill Eddy, the head of independent television station WBKB in Chicago, offered Tillstrom his own TV show. Tillstrom quickly accepted. Kukla, Fran and Ollie, co-starring radio actress, singer and former schoolteacher Fran Allison, was televised from 1947-1957. Lightly creased. Light paper clip impression at upper left background. Overall, fine condition.
