Griffith Show was televised on CBS from 1960-1968. Andy Griffith was
Sheriff Andy Taylor of Mayberry, North Carolina and Bavier portrayed his Aunt
Bea Taylor, who lived in to help care for his six-year-old son Opie. The 249
episodes filmed are still shown in syndication. Frances E. Bavier
(1902-1989) had a successful career on Broadway before making her feature
film debut in 1951 (The Day the Earth Stood Still). She continued to
appear in films until 1974 (Benji), but she is best known for her
television work, appearing on several TV series, including anthologies,
dramas, Westerns and sit-coms. On The Andy Griffith Show, on CBS,
1960-1968 she played Aunt Bea Taylor, who lived in to help care for
Andy's six-year-old son, Opie (played by actor and future Academy
