FRANCES WHITE
White handwrote, signed and signed this letter detailing her acting career on
TV, stage and film to Todd Axelrod in 1984. Accompanied by original mailing
envelope.
Autograph letter signed "Frances White". 1 page, 5¾x8. Oct. 12,
1984. Addressed to Todd Axelrod, Las Vegas, Nevada. In full: "Dear
Mr. Axelrod, Thank you for your letter, dated 11th September - I feel very
honoured that you wish to include me in your project. My professional career
started in 1960 when I left the Central School of Drama with three awards. Work
in repertory followed until in 1962 I had my first big television break -
Melanie in Marghanita Laski's 'The Victorian Chaise Lounge'. Many leading
television roles followed. Favourites include - Ruth in A. E. Coppard's 'Dusky
Ruth.", Andrea in Stan Barstow's 'A Raging Calm.', Winnie Verloc in Joseph
Conrad's 'The Secret Agent,' Julia in Robert Grave's 'I, Claudius', and Queen
Charlotte in 'Prince Regent.' West End Stage appearances include 'Fit to Print',
Georgie in 'A Severed Head' by Iris Murdoch and Lady Mellifont in 'Apperances'
[sic] (from 'A Private Life' by Henry James. Films include 'The Pumpkin
Eater', 'Mary, Queen of Scots' and 'Press for Time'. With best wishes for your

Accompanied by: Original mailing envelope, addressed to Todd M. Axelrod,
the American Museum of Historical Documents, Las Vegas, Nevada. Postmarked Oct.
15, 1984. Lightly toned and creased. Torn open neatly at left end. Folded in
half. Otherwise in fine condition. White, born in Leeds, Yorkshire,
England in 1938, is an English actress with almost 50 movies and TV shows to her
credit since 1951. White's most well-known role is probably as Vera Flood in
May to December (1989-1994), and she also appeared as Julia, daughter
of Emperor Augustus, in I, Claudius (1976). Doctor Who fans may
also know her as Cassandra from the four-episode story The Myth Makers
(1965).
