Autograph Note Signed: "Xo/Ma. Cras. P. Shoffner/my sincere wishes,/Francesca Bragiotti/1928", in black ink. 3¾x2¼. Francesca Braggiotti (1902-1998) was an Italian actress, dancer and dubber. She was born to Buddhists Italian tenor and an American mezzo-soprano. She started her dancing career forming the Braggiotti Sisters with an overwhelming success in Boston after World War I. The poet Amy Lowell was much enchanted by her that composed an ode in her honor, and Isabella Stewart Gardner asked the duo to a private performance at Fenway Court. The dance school of the sisters first introduced dance Expressionist movement in Boston as well as a new vision of health and beauty. After her sister died, Francesca started working in cinema and began dubbing in Italy. She starred in Rasputin and the Empress (1932), Little Women (1932), Scipio Africanus: The Defeatn of Hannibal (1937) and Stanotte alle undici (1937). She was the first Italian who gave voice to Greta Garbo and talked the first bar dubbed in Italian film history "Give me a cigarette!"in the movie Mata Hari by George Fitzmaurice. In 1929, Francesca got married to John Davis Lodge and after his entry into politics, she withdrew from artistic life. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
