The Unitarian minister and Dean of Harvard's Divinity School sends letter of thanks, signs name in black ink
Autograph letter signed: "Francis G. Peabody" in black ink. 1 page front and verso, 5x8. Written on Harvard University letterhead. Cambridge, England. February 24, 1896. Addressed Mr. James L. Whitney of Cambridge. In full: "I am very deeply obliged to you for this most interesting and satisfactory photograph of Judge Hoar. It is very curious that I should have been wishing this only a few days ago, my plan being to put in our framer portraits of Mr. Longfellow, Dr. Gray, and Judge Hoar, at whose funerals I have had the privilege of officiating. I very much appreciate your kindness. Always truly yours". Francis G. Peabody (1847-1936) was an Unitarian minister and professor of theology at Harvard University, where he served as Dean of the Harvard Divinity School; his works include Jesus Christ and the Christian Character, The Christian Life in the Modern World, and The Religious Education of an American Citizen.
