Also affixed is a transmittal envelope bearing Myers' stamped frank, addressed to Captain Ralph E. Ward, Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C. FRANCIS JOHN MYERS (1901-1956, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was a teacher, lawyer or Democratic politician from Pennsylvania. He was Representative from the state's 6th Congressional District from 1939-1945 and U. S. Senator from Pennsylvania (1945-1951) and majority whip from 1949 to 1951. As majority whip he ranked second in the Senate Democratic leadership behind Majority Leader Scott Lucas of Illinois, shown here. Myers was the first Catholic to represent Pennsylvania in the US Senate. From the collection of Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. Ward went on to become President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. Lightly toned. Fine condition.
