FRANCES "MUGGSY" SPANIER and ORRIN TUCKER The cornet player and big band leader signed opposite sides of this album leaf Autograph Note Signed: "To Lloyd/ Best wishes/ Muggsy Spanier" and "Orrin Tucker". 6x4½. FRANCIS JOSEPH "MUGGSY" SPANIER (1906-1967) was a cornet player based out of Chicago. Spanier had his own band that played traditional jazz, leading a revival of sorts for the genre. He was one of the three most influential jazz soloists of his era, alongside Louis Armstrong and Bix Beiderbecke. ORRIN TUCKER (1911-2011) was a big band leader whose WWI-era hit "Oh Johnny" made him a household name. His band performed around the country before Tucker bought the Stardust Ballroom, located on Sunset Boulevard, in 1975. The facility became the only place to find his orchestra. A television movie was produced that same year titled Queen of the Stardust Ballroom that featured the band. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
