Questionnaire signed: "Francis M. Rogallo", 6½x3¾ card. His
handwritten responses to a series of printed, personal questions: favorite
animal -"cats"; favorite food - "ice cream"; favorite movie -
"Gone with the Wind"; favorite song - "Carolina is my Home".
Francis M. Rogallo (b. 1912), an aircraft designer at the Langley Research
Center in Hampton, Virginia in the 1930s and 1940s, invented the Rogallo wing
(1958), a totally flexible wing later used in the recovery of space vehicles and
delivery of military air-cargo and low-speed flight including hang gliding,
ultralight aircraft and parachutes. His wife Gertrude, who helped build the
prototype at home, scavenged the cloth for the wings from kitchen curtains. Fine
condition.
