Inscribed photograph signed: "To Chaw Mank/My best wishes to you/and many thanks/for the compliment./Francis McDonald/8/8-36" in black ink. Francis McDonald (1891-1968) was an American actor whose career spanned 52 years. He made 41 film and television appearances between 1913 and 1965, appearing in films such as The Temptress in 1926 with Greta Garbo. He made numerous television appearances, including six episodes of The Roy Rogers Show, five episodes of Lone Ranger, and four episodes each of Broken Arrow, Sugarfoot, and Perry Mason. Among his four Perry Mason roles were as Captain Noble in the 1957 episode, "The Case of the Crooked Candle," and Salty Sims in "The Case of the Petulant Partner" (1959). He also appeared in Broadway performances of "The Big Scene" and "A Woman's Honor". This item comes from the estate of Charles "Chaw" Mank Jr. (1902-1985), noted songwriter, author, bandleader, record producer, sheet music publisher, psychic, radio personality, silent movie theater organist, world champion pen pal, inveterate collector and Hollywood/music fan club pioneer. Heavy silvering. Lightly toned and worn edges. Lightly bowed. Corners rounded. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
