In 1967, Zeffirelli directed Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor in an adaptation of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, then cast 17-year-old Leonard Whiting and 15-year-old Olivia Hussey in Romeo and Juliet (1968), receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.
