Collection of two items: 1) Typed Letter signed: ""+ Fr. Card. Marty" as Archbishop of Paris, 5½x4 card. Paris, 1972 March 30. On personal letterhead to David A. Marcus. In French, loosely translated: "Thank you for your letter of March 22 just received, requesting an autographed photo. With best wishes for Easter. Top right corner creased. Otherwise, fine condition. 2) Photograph signed: "+ Fr. Card. Marty" on verso. B/w, 3x4¾. Fine condition. French Catholic prelate Francois Cardinal Marty (1904-1994) was ordained in 1930, rising to bishop (1952), archbishop (1960) and cardinal (1969). He was Archbishop of Paris from 1968 to 1981. At the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), he submitted a report at the request of Pope John XXIII on ministry to the working class. Arriving at Notre Dame Cathedral three years later, amidst great turmoil, he became a strong advocate for disaffected and immigrant workers. Two items.
