FRANK DILNOT
Writing to a future hostess on his lecture tour, he suggests as a topic former Prime Minister Lloyd-George.
Autograph Letter signed: "Frank Dilnot", 2 pages (integral leaf), 5½x7. Addressed envelope included: "Mrs. Wainwright/912 Clay Avenue/Scranton Penn." Stamped from New York 1921. The City Club of New York, 1921 April 10. To "My Dear Mrs. Wainwright", in full: "I shall be most pleased to accept the kind invitation of Dr. Wainwright and yourself. I will come by the train you suggest. I am leaving tomorrow for four days of lecturing at Illinois University, and as I shall not be back here for a week it would be a convenience if you would let me know in the meantime what you would like me to talk on. (There will not be time for correspondence when I get back.) Better my [illegible phrase] or my England of yesterday, today and tomorrow would include a sketch of Lloyd George and his life. With kindest regards to yourself & Dr. Wainwright. Yours very sincerely." English journalist Frank Buckland Dilnot (1875-1946) edited a labor publication, The Daily Citizen, before moving to The Globe and then the London Daily Express. He was President of the Association of Foreign Correspondents in America (1918-1919) and of the London Press Club (1928-1929). Dilnot wrote several books on society and politics in Britain and the United States, including a biography of Lloyd-George and a memoir, The Adventures of a Newspaper Man. Envelope torn from opening. Toned. Creased from fold. Letter in fine condition.
