Frank Buck sends an autograph letter of acceptance to be part of a group of men.
Autograph Letter Signed: "Frank Buck", 1p, 5½x6¾. Dallas, Texas, 1936 November 26.
On letterhead of The Stoneleigh to "Dear Mr. Canwell". In full: "Thanks for your letter. Of
course I shall be pleased to be included in your group of men for the frieze in the new
room at the Warwick. Hope the enclosed information will be of use to you. I will be back
in N.Y. at the Warwick next week if you require anything more. Yours Sincerely".
Enclosure not present. Hunter, author and filmmaker Frank Buck (1884-1950) made his
first expedition to South America in 1911. He eventually traveled to Malaya, India, Borneo,
New Guinea and Africa. From these and other expeditions, he brought back many exotic
species of animals, which he sold to zoos and circuses, ultimately acquiring the nickname
"Bring 'em Back Alive". The Frank Buck Zoo, named in his honor, is located in Gainesville,
Texas, the birthplace of the adventurer. Lightly creased with fold, not at signature. Slightly soiled
at blank areas, 2 stains at lower blank area, 1 touches the "n" in Frank and the flourish of Buck.
Pinhole and light stain at upper margin at imprinted logo. Fine condition. Framed to an overall
size of 27¼x19¼.
