"Go Hogs" on this printed card
Autograph sentiment signed: "Go Hogs/Frank Broyles", in black
felt tip, 3x5 card. Frank Broyles (b. 1924) began his career as a
successful football player and coach, then later became an athletics
administrator and sports broadcaster. Broyles sets the record for number of
wins by a coach in Arkansas' football history, with 144-59-5 in 19 seasons.
Acting as head coach for Georgia Tech, Missouri and Arkansas, respectively,
Frank Broyles holds seven Southwest Conference Championships and two Cotton Bowl
Classic wins under his belt. The Football Writers Association of America
dubbed his 1964 Arkansas team as National Champions. In 1974, the head
coach was hired as the Men's Athletic Director of UofA, where he presided
over 57 Southwest Conference Championships, 43 National Championships and 47
Southeastern Conference Championships. From 1977 to 1985, Broyles served as
a primary color commentator for ABC Sports coverage of college football,
where he focused mainly on play calling and coaching strategy. Despite all of
his success, the athletic director caused quite a stir in local politics and
business when he declared in 2000 that home games would be moved from War
Memorial Stadium in Little Rock to Fayetteville. This caused what it now known
in Arkansas as the "Great Stadium Debate". Slightly soiled with small
crease in bottom left corner. Fine condition.
